This caramelized onion dip will bring tears to your eyes and put a smile on you face. It goes particularly well with sweet potato chips, but pretzels, pita chips, carrots or crostini would all go equally well! Make it a day ahead and let the flavors meld for the most awesome experience! Enjoy!
Onions should cook for about 20 minutes until they are caramelized. Stir occasionally to brown evenly.

Serves: 1-1½ cups
Ingredients
- 1 onion, diced and caramelized
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ teaspoon Kosher salt (for caramelizing the onions)
- ¾ cup sour cream
- ⅓ cup mayonnaise
- 2 oz cream cheese, softened (I do this in the microwave 5-10 seconds at a time)
- ½ teaspoon Kosher salt (for the actual dip)
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ⅛ teaspoon onion powder (toasted if you have it)
- 20 turns of ground pepper from a pepper mill
Instructions
- Place olive oil, onions and ¼ teaspoon salt in a frying pan over medium heat. Onions should cook for about 20 minutes until they are caramelized. Stir occasionally to brown evenly. Once cooked set aside to cool.
- Combine all other ingredients in a bowl finishing with the onions. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to use. Hopefully at least an hour to overnight!
